Tell Your City-County Councillor to Vote Yes on Proposal 182 and Allow the Investigation to Move Forward!

About Proposal 182

City-County Council Proposal 182 (link here) was introduced in March. The proposal would establish a bipartisan investigative committee to look into alleged improprieties by City-County Council President Monroe Gray. The improprieties alleged in the resolution were:

·       Not properly completing ethics forms

·       Providing incorrect information on ethics forms

Since Proposal 182 was introduced, the following revelations have come to light:

·       Monroe Gray has claimed tax breaks to which he should not be entitled

·       Monroe Gray is employed by the Indianapolis Fire Department as a “liaison to the City-County Council,” of which he is already a member, at a salary of over $80,000, all funded by taxpayer dollars

·       Monroe Gray owned a construction company which was given Indianapolis city contracts

·       Monroe Gray’s company has had court judgments levied against it for poor performance, shoddy workmanship, and failing to live up to expectations set forth in contracts

Gray’s cronies on the Council tried to “strike,” or get rid of, this proposal, but that effort failed. However, Gray has strong-armed the Council and prevented this investigation from moving forward by:

·       Having every Democrat on Council vote against efforts to hear the measure

·       Hiring the Council Attorney, Aaron Haith, as his personal defense attorney and having Haith make incorrect rulings to prevent Proposal 182 from being heard

·       Breaking Council Rules by moving the proposal of meeting agendas

·       Despite the conflict of interest, Gray himself has voted to prevent the measure from being heard

It’s clear Monroe Gray does not want the Public to know what he has done!

But what can we do about it?
